Oh My Cat Eye!

For years, I've been pining for a pair of cat eye prescription glasses. I've never worn contacts and have always really liked the way I look wearing my specs in addition to relishing the opportunities I've had to pick out a new pair. But for years, I was also way too painfully self conscious and worried about looking odd to even try on a retro-inspired pair. Then, the last time I visited the optometrist, he asked me what I had in mind. After getting up the gumption to ask after cat eyes, he informed me (to my displeasure) that they wouldn't suit me and I needed to be a bit more punk to pull it off. Well, obviously he didn't realize that my style purposefully hearkens back to that of my various great aunts. Silly man.

Despite my doctor's advice, I've kept my eyes peeled for the perfect vintage or retro style glasses. Well, today one of my co-workers brought Fabulous Fanny's to my attention and I couldn't be happier about it. As they say on the site "If you have to wear them, make it fun..."

Here are some of my favorites; honestly, I wish I could buy every pair!

...and my favorite pair of all. Despite all of my courage, I don't know if I would be able to pull off these blue butterfly stunners, but it would definitely be worth a try!

Its wonderful, you can browse sunglasses, vintage women's and men's eye wear, antiques and even order custom pairs. I definitely know where I'm going the next time I need new glasses.

  1. i am so into colored frames that the 2 i wear regularly are pink and green. separately, not together.

  3. love these! I knew a librarian once that switched her glasses twice a week and they were always very spunky. I wear contacts (I know, what a chicken) but I love that yellow/gold pair :)

  5. I think you could rock that style well. personally, I look like a total librarian in them, so I tend to go for nerd glasses aka comic book geek chich haha

  8. I love glasses! I don't need them but if and when I do, I'll never be a contacts girl. I think glasses are great. :) I'm sure I'd go for a slight cats eye pair!

  10. Those are all fabulous! I had Lasik, and you know, I never even thought I'd miss wearing my glasses, and most times I don't, but in terms of the fashion options, I do. Very much. You should go cat-eyed! I love the second pair!

  15. Despite what your optician said, (pffft) I think you definitely can pull cat eye glasses off! The second last pair looks like the one with most potential. But of cos, you should try them on before committing! I wanted so much for my fat face to suit the rayban wayfarer glasses, since the sunglasses works on me, but no, it just doesn't. So I opted for something close but suited for the asian face, hahaha. Go for it honey!!

  16. These are so pretty! Yeah, just ignore the optician - what does he know about style?! I really like the current ones you wear in your photos, but all of these are gorgeous. The blue butterfly ones are my favourite too :)

  19. It's sad... remember those glasses the nerdy dude wore in the movie "Wild Hogs"? The glasses that come apart by a magnet in the nose piece and then go back together?

Ugly as hell! But I bought three pair so far! The best glasses a single dad of six can have!!

    Functional being the keyword!

  24. They are all fabulous! And, you would look KILLER in any of those pairs. Don't listen to your optometrist {at least not on that issue}. Go for it - try on a pair and see what happens. Have a lovely weekend!
