Today is moving day. Everything won't be delivered until Thursday, but the first leg is over and done. The movers arrived two hours early this morning, leaving me with lots of time to wander around the neighborhood of the friends we're staying with for the next two nights. There were lots of flowers, bees, (our) adorable dogs, and random things to see. I won't be posting any outfit photos for a few days, but I hope you enjoy these pics.

Waking Up
Sometimes, when I see a bird flying through the clouds, I wish that I could be that bird and my mind takes flight. I initially had that thought when I took this last photo yesterday. But then it occurred to me that if I had come into this world as that creature, there's a good chance that I would be looking down at the woman on the bus taking photos and wish that I could be her. I realized that thinking like that is so self-defeating because it only distracts me from the wonderful business of making my own way in the life that I'm living right now. And it doesn't matter anyway...because I can't be that bird, I can't be anyone else and I can't really know what any other experience is but my own.
Lately I feel like I'm waking up from a very long sleep. It feels good.

Comfort Clothes
When I was getting ready to leave the house this morning I thought to myself 'I just want to wear something comfortable today.' The first garment that sprung to mind was this blouse. I actually found it at Target a few years ago, although it reminds me of something Victorian (not sure at all if that would be accurate:). I've never really been sure how to wear it, but love all of the details from the decorative stitching to the lace and bird-shaped buttons.
The little purse was a Florida thrift store find from earlier this summer. My sister Kate and I walked into the establishment, and there it was, just waiting for me on the shelf. I realized recently that one of the most wonderful things about my collection of second hand clothes are the memories that each garment or accessory or bag brings to mind when I pull it out of the closet. Most of those memories involve Kate, so (in a strange way) getting dressed in the morning, choosing from among my brooches, deciding on a scarf or pair of earrings...every time I run my fingers over these objects, they make me feel closer to my sister who is thousands of miles away. It sounds sad to me reading what I've written, but its really not. Its happy and hopeful and makes me look forward to the next time that we can go out on a thrifting adventure together again.
If you're reading this Kate, I love you :)

A Good Day
From this angle, these door knobs remind me of a set of demure twins...
...but from this one, they remind me of a set of eyes.
We're moving a week from tomorrow. Its just across town, but we're going to have our own place again after living with other people for the past few years. Its a bittersweet moment and as we've taken down our pictures and packed our books, I've given in to a bit of nostalgia about this place that I've enjoyed living in so much.
